Earlier Henkel generations

FAMILY HISTORY
The family wants to trace its history back to the 1800s. This first edition begins with the names and photographs available now, and makes space for older records as they arrive.
THE RECORD SO FAR
Archival folder names help place photographs in time, but they are not proof of every person pictured or every event. The timeline separates the family relationships Bob supplied from what the photo labels actually say.
The intended starting point for this family history. Names, dates, places, and documentary sources for nineteenth-century ancestors have not yet been supplied.
Bob identifies Hubert and Velma as Garry Nelson Henkel’s parents. A photograph is filed under a name resembling Hubert, but the person’s identity still needs confirmation.
The earliest ZIP contains a set of wedding photographs labeled 1961. Names for individual people in the pictures should be confirmed by family members.
Albums include childhood pictures of Robert and Laura, a 1963 photograph labeled Robert with a great-grandmother, and later family gatherings.
The second archive contains family albums and photographs from Ohio State, Europe, the West Indies, and other trips. Folder dates are retained for browsing.
Albums labeled Key West, the Dry Tortugas, Europe, India, Ireland, and other places add another chapter to the picture collection.
The later archive includes pictures of Kimberly, Monica, and Robert, alongside family trips, sailing, and work.
Albums labeled Kimberly, Guatemala, Curaçao, Cuba, Hawaii, and family birthdays carry the photographs into a new decade.
Newly supplied albums are labeled for travel through Europe, Cuba, and Las Vegas, and for Ina, Kimberly, Fantasy Fest, Boston, and Christmas. The dates and names follow the original photo folders.
New folders are labeled for trips through Cuba, Europe, Las Vegas, and the Bahamas, a Palm Beach to Marathon journey, Disney, birthdays, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Their dates follow the original folder labels.
Albums are labeled Costa Rica, an Asia trip, Guatemala, Las Vegas, the Duchess, fishing and Scout outings, family celebrations, and storm photographs. A separate loose scan has no confirmed year.
More albums are filed under Konrad Albert Henkel, Christmas 2006, a 2007 class reunion, the Duchess, and a sailing trip to Andros. Some additional pictures have earlier camera dates or no reliable date; the album labels remain open for family review.
Eight additional archives include a January trip, phone snapshots, family photos, and a trip to Arenal. Camera dates place the otherwise generically named DSC albums in 2008. A ZIP inside one album repeats another archive and is counted once.
New albums are labeled for a January trip to Mexico, family gatherings, fishing, a spring outing, and Konrad’s first bike ride. The folder called “Picture 015” has camera dates mostly from 2007, so those images remain in that earlier year for family review.
Fourteen archives, plus a New Year album, include Kimberly cheerleading, a fair, a birthday, a Fantasy Fest booth, the Western Union boat, Costa Rica, San Pedro Sula, Belize and Honduras, and photographs received from the Gerharts. These albums are grouped under 2010 based on their labels, camera dates, and the family’s description.
New albums include Konrad’s birthday and Ina’s party, trips filed under Asia, Boston, New Orleans and California, plus snapshots from a Samsung phone. Several March travel ZIPs overlap; each distinct photograph appears once. Videos remain in the original archives.
New folders are labeled for Konrad’s graduation, first day of high school, birthday, summer camp, and Boy Scout camp. The collection also includes Kimberly’s birthday and family visits.
Four new archives bring together a March trip to London, photographs filed as Konrad in November, a June trip labeled “Porland,” and other family pictures from July and December. The year follows the archive names and camera dates; one picture without camera metadata stays in a general 2024 album.
Photographs are filed under Konrad’s boot camp completion, a London trip, and pictures labeled Dad and Konrad and Konrad and Grandpa. These labels are preserved for family review.
Bob’s description connects Ina and Robert with their son Konrad and the family dog, Max. More photos and stories can extend this part of the timeline.

THE NEXT CHAPTER
Documents such as family letters, certificates, newspaper clippings, census records, and photographs with handwritten names could help extend this timeline into the 1800s. New uploads can be added without changing the overall design.
The site will keep uncertain identities and dates clearly labeled until the family confirms them.
